Cut two 4×4’s to 8′ long. Cut two 4×4’s to 10′ long. Notch the ends 1 3/4″ deep. Assemble using 3″ deck screws.
Front Wall
Cut two 2×4’s to 10′ long. Cut six 2×4’s to 6′ long. Assemble as shown on illustration above using 3 1/2 nails.
Notch the wall studs 3 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ deep as shown on illustration above.
Cut three 2×4’s to 10′ long. Assemble as shown on illustration above using 3″ deck screws.
Frame the front door opening as shown on illustration above. Cut one 2×4 to 3′ 9″ long. Cut two 2×4’s to 3′ 5 1/2″ long, notch the top end around 2×4, assemble using 3 1/2″ nails.
Back Wall Frame
Cut two 2×4’s to 10′ long. Cut six 2×4’s to 6′ long. Assemble as shown on illustration above using 3 1/2 nails.
Notch the wall studs 3 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ deep as shown on illustration above.
Cut three 2×4’s to 10′ long. Assemble as shown on illustration above using 3″ deck screws.
Cut two 2×4’s to 1′ 9 3/4″ long, assemble as shown on illustration above using 3 1/2″ nails.
Right Wall Frame
Cut two 2×4’s to 7′ 5″ long. Cut six 2×4’s to 6′ long. Assemble as shown on illustration above using 3 1/2″ nails.
Notch the wall studs 3 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ deep as shown on illustration above.
Cut six 2×4’s to 2′ 5 1/2″ long. Assemble as shown on illustration above using 3″ deck screws.
Left Wall Frame
Cut two 2×4’s to 7′ 5″ long. Cut five 2×4’s to 6′ long. Assemble as shown on illustration above using 3 1/2″ nails.
Notch the wall studs 3 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ deep as shown on illustration above.
Cut three 2×4’s to 7′ 5″ long. Assemble as shown on illustration above using 3″ deck screws.
Cut one 2×4 to 1′ 6 1/4″ long. Cut one 2×4 to 1′ 10 1/2″ long. Cut two 2×4’s to 3′ 6 1/4″ long. Assemble as shown on illustration above using 3 1/2″ nails.
Install the wall frames to the floor frame using 3 1/2″ nails. Cut and remove the 2×4 on door opening, see illustration above for details.
Roof – Rafter/Truss
Cut twelve 2×4’s to 4′ 7 3/8″ long, cut a 26.5 degree angle cut on one end. Cut six 2×4’s to 8′ long, cut a 63.5 degree angle cut on both ends in opposite direction.
Cut out plywood gussets and assemble the roof truss as shown on illustration above using 1 1/2″ nails.
Place roof truss over wall studs and install using 3 1/2″ nails.
Measure, cut, and install 1/2″ plywood roof deck using 1 1/2″ nails.
Floor Deck
Cut three 2×4’s to 7′ 9″ long, install as shown on illustration above using 3 1/2″ nails.
Cut one 2×4 to 7′ 5″ long, install as shown on illustration above, toe-nail 3 1/2″ nails through the 2×4 and into the wall stud.
Measure, cut, and install the 3/4″ plywood floor deck using 2″ nails.
Inside Wall Frame
Cut two 2×4’s to 7′ 5″ long. Cut five 2×4’s to 3′ 4 3/4″ long. Cut one 2×4 to 1′ 6 1/4″ long. Cut one 2×4 to 1′ long. Assemble as shown on illustration above using 3 1/2″ nails.
Install the inside wall frame as shown on illustration above using 3 1/2″ nails.
Nest Box
Build the nest box, see “chicken coop nest box plans” for directions, and install using 3 1/2″ nails.
Siding – Wire Mesh – Roof Trim
Cut to size and install the wire mesh using staples.
Cut and install the siding to the left side of the coop using 1 1/4″ finishing nails.
Cut four 2×4’s to 4′ 7 3/8″ long, cut a 26.5 degree angle cut on one end. Assemble as shown on illustration above using 3″ finishing nails. Measure, cut, and install the front and back roof trim as shown on illustration above using 3″ finishing nails.
Measure, cut, and install the siding for the front and back wall, install using 1 1/4″ finishing nails. Cut the front door opening, the siding that has been cut out will be used to make the door.
Measure, cut, and install the siding for the inside wall, install using 1 1/4″ finishing nails. Cut out the door opening to the inside wall.
Front Door
Measure, cut, and install the 1×4 trim around door opening. Use 1 1/4″ finishing nails to install.
Use the siding that was cut out of the door opening to make the front door. Measure, cut, and install 1×4 trim on the door as shown on illustration above. Use 1 1/4″ finishing nails to install.
Add hinges, door handle, and latch, and install door.
Right Side Door
Cut two 2×4’s to 6′ 1 1/2″ long, notch the ends 3 1/2″ x 3/4″ deep. Cut two 2×4’s to 2′ 6″ long, notch the ends 3 1/2″ x 3/4″ deep. Assemble using 1 1/4″ nails. Cut wire mesh to size and install with staples.
Add hinges, door handle, and latch, and install door.
Shingles/Trim
Install roof felt, and shingles. Cut 1×2 trim and install.
These plans are great. Quick question… do you have plans for the ramp for the hens to get into the upper level?
I just took a 3/4x 10 inch board, added some 1/4 x 1/4 trim every 6 inches or so, painted it spray in bed liner, then attached it with small L-brackets bent to the correct angle.

Currently have 16 in mine, this is way too large and heavy to be used as a tractor-type.

great plans, had a blast making this.
i did move the nesting box door from opening on top to opening on the front. less scare/startle for birds.
i wish i would have moved the opening and nesting box 6-10 inches off the coop floor. birds can easily hop that and then you can have a deep litter method without getting chips/shavings in the nesting box.

Does anyone have the PDF plans…looking for a new project and this looks perfect for my chickens.
These plans were great! I consider myself an amateur and was able to follow these plans perfectly. The only thing I did differently was I enclosed the area below the coop for shade/protection, and I used clear roofing on the outdoor parts of the coop.The results were amazing and this coop is VERY solid.

built this about 4 years ago. couple changes i made.
roof has outriggers each side
the nest box is full length across the back. and the lid does not tilt up (so as to not scare the birds) the back of the nest box opens.
one last thing i wish i would have done was to raise the nesting box about 4-6 inches off the floor of the coop. that way litter and debris do not end up in the boxes from the coop.
