This may be the project I was looking for!
I’m looking for help with building a patio cover in a slight L shape attached to 3 walls
Looking at the 8’X8′ and 10’X10′ pergola designs. They call for 9″ carriage bolts that fasten two 2″X6″ boards to either side of a 6″X6″ post. Wouldn’t the bolts have to be at least 11″ to clear through the 10″ of wood to be fastened on the other side with a nut and washer? Or am I looking at it all wrong? Also, can the bolts be standard? Do they have to be carriage bolts?
after dressing (planing) 6×6 posts are about 5 1/2 inches and 2xs are about 1 1/2 inches. so the bolt just has to clear 8.5 inches.
The pergola plans don’t show sufficient detail with regard tg the braces. It isn’t clear where or how the top of the brace is attached. The bottom looks to be attached to the 6×6 uprights, but how? You’d need mighty long screws or long countersunk holes to attach the 45 degree cut to the upright. The plants don’t address this.
I used 5” screws
