These chicken coop plans were designed to fit in small areas. It is a single unit with the coop and chicken run attached. It has a front and side door to make cleaning easy and let the chickens out as well.

Building the Chicken Coop Floor

The coop foundation will measure 8′ wide by 4′ deep. The floor deck will measure 4′ wide by 4′ deep.
Attach the side top and bottom bands (B) and (E) to the legs (C) using 3 1/2″ long deck screws.
Drill holes through the top and bottom bands (A) & (D) and through the legs (C). Assemble using two 3/8″ diameter – 3 1/2″ long galvanized carriage bolts, nuts, and washers two on top and two on the bottom.
Install the 2×6 floor deck (F) using 3 1/2″ long deck screws.
- (A) 2 pressure-treated 2×6 – 8′ long
- (B) 2 pressure-treated 2×6 – 3′ 9″ long
- (C) 4 pressure-treated 2×6 – 2′ 5 1/2″ long
- (D) 2 – 2×6 – 8′ long
- (E) 2 – 2×6 – 3′ 9″ long
- (F) 9 – 2×6 – 4′ long, rip one 2×6 to 4″ ( deck floor should measure 4’x4′ make adjustments if needed )
Building the Chicken Coop Wall Frames

Build the back wall frame.
- Cut two 2×4’s to 4′ long
- Cut three 2×4’s to 3′ 9″ long
Assemble as shown in drawing above using 3 1/2″ nails.

Build the front wall frame.
- Cut two 2×4’s to 4′ long
- Cut four 2×4’s to 3′ 9″ long
Assemble as shown in drawing above using 3 1/2″ nails.

Build the right wall frame.
- Cut two 2×4’s to 3′ 5″ long
- Cut three 2×4’s to 3′ 9″ long
Assemble as shown on drawing above using 3 1/2″ nails.

Build the left wall frame.
- Cut two 2×4’s to 3′ 5″ long
- Cut two 2×4’s to 3′ 9″ long
- Cut one 2×4 to 2′ 7 1/2″ long
- Cut one 2×4 to 3′ 2″ long
Assemble as shown on drawing above using 3 1/2″ nails.

Start by installing the front and back wall frames. Nail 3 1/2″ nails through the wall frame and into the floor deck. Do not nail on door entrance, cut and remove bottom plate, see drawing above.
Next install the right and left wall frames using 3 1/2″ nails. Nail through the wall frame and into the floor deck.
Building the Chicken Coop Truss – Rafters

- Cutting the roof rafters (A). Cut four 2×4’s to 3′ 10 1/2″ long, cut one end of the 2×4’s as shown on drawing above.
- Cutting the roof rafter (B). Cut two 2×4’s to 8′ 11 1/16″ long, cut one end of the 2×4’s as shown on drawing above.
- Cutting the crosspiece (C). Cut three 2×4’s to 4′ long, cut both ends of the 2×4 as shown on drawing above.

Build the front and back roof truss as shown in drawing above. To assemble the truss cut out some gussets (D) to size using left over wood from roof, floor, or siding plywood, nail in place with 2″ nails.

Build the center truss as shown in drawing above. To assemble the truss cut out some gussets (D) to size using left over wood from roof, floor, or siding plywood, nail in place with 2″ nails.

Install the roof truss as shown on drawing above. Toe nail the truss into the wall frame with 3 1/2″ nails.
- Next cut one 2×4 to 3′ 9″ long and one 2×4 to 4′ long, install as shown in picture above using 3 1/2″ nails.
Siding

The siding used is T1-11 exterior siding.
- Cut out a piece of siding for the left wall to 2′ 6″ x 4′
- Cut out a piece of siding for the right wall to 4′ 5/8″ x 4′
- Cut out two pieces of siding for the front and back to 6′ 7 1/4″ x 4′ ( the easiest way to cut the roof line is by installing it into place then cutting)
Use 1 1/4″ finishing nails to install siding.
Cut out the front door opening, the piece that has been cut out will be used to make the door. Next cut a small door on the right siding as shown on drawing above, drawing shows a 1’x1′ door opening.
Roof

- Cut three 2×4’s to 5′ 1 1/4″
Next make a notch 3 1/2″ wide and 1 1/2″ deep on the rafters and siding as shown in drawing above. The ends will stick out 6″, install with 3 1/2″ nails.
Roof Trim

- Cut four 2×4’s to 4′ long for the roof trim. Cut one end of the 2×4’s as shown on drawing above.

- Cut one 2×4 to 5′ 1 1/4″
Install the roof trim as shown in drawing above using 3 1/2″ nails.
Roof Deck

The roof deck used is 1/2″ plywood.
- Cut two pieces of plywood to 5′ 4 1/4″ x 4′, install with 2″ nails.
Wire Mesh

Cut and install wire mesh using staples as shown in drawing above.
Trim

Cut 1×4’s to size and install over the wire mesh edge. Use 1 1/4″ finishing nails to install the 1×4 trim.
Building the Chicken Coop Side Door

Building the chicken coop side door.
- Cut two 2×4’s to 4′ 9/16″ and notch the ends as shown in drawing
- Cut two 2×4’s to 3′ 9″ and notch the ends
- Cut one 2×4 to 3′ 9″
Assemble the side door as shown on drawings using 1 1/2″ deck screws, and hinges. Use staples to secure the wire mesh in place.

- Cut a 2×4 to 3′ 9″ long for the door stop, install into place as shown in drawing using 3 1/2″ deck screws.
Building the Chicken Coop Front Door

Install trim to door opening.
- Cut one 1×4 to 1′ 3″
- Cut two 1×4’s to 4′
Use 1 1/4″ finishing nails and install as shown in drawing above.

Install the 1×4 trim to the door.
- Cut one 1×4 to 2′ 6″
- Cut two 1×4’s to 3′ 8 1/2″
Install into place as shown on drawing using 1 1/4″ finishing nails. Install the hinges and attach door.
Building the Chicken Coop Final Details

Install the roof felt and shingles. Drawing shows a ladder built with a 2×8 board and 1×2’s. For the inside you can build the chicken roost using scrap wood.
