DIY Cockatiel Nesting Box | Material List
- (A) – 1 – 3/4 in. particle board – 8 3/4 in. x 11 1/4 in.
- (B) – 2 – 3/8 in. plywood – 8 3/4 in. x 10 in
- (C) – 1 – 3/8 in. plywood – 10 in. x 12 in.
- (D) – 1 – 3/8 in. plywood – 9 5/8 in. x 12 in.
- (E) – 3/8 in. plywood – 10 in. x 11 1/4 in.
- 1 – 3/8 in dowel – 5 in.
- 18 gauge 5/8 in. brad nails
Overview
Nesting box measures: 9 1/2 inches (width) x 12 inches (depth) x 10 inches (height)
- (A) – 1 – 3/4 in. particle board – 8 3/4 in. x 11 1/4 in.
Cut a 3/4 inch particle board to 8 3/4 inch x 11 1/4 inch for the bottom (A).
Optional, using a carving tool, carve a round dip to the center of the floor to keep eggs in place.
- (B) – 2 – 3/8 in. plywood – 8 3/4 in. x 10 in.
Cut two 3/8 inch plywood to 8 3/4 inch x 10 inch for the front and back (B).
Cut the entrance hole, dowel hole, and mounting holes, for the front as shown on drawing above.
Drill mounting holes for the back as shown on drawing above.
Attach the front and back (B) to the bottom (A) using 5/8 inch brad nails.
- (C) – 1 – 3/8 in. plywood – 10 in. x 12 in.
Cut a 3/8 inch plywood to 10 inches x 12 inches for the left side (C).
Attach the left side (C) to the front/back (B), and bottom (A), using 5/8 inch brad nails.
- (D) – 1 – 3/8 in. plywood – 9 5/8 in. x 12 in.
Cut a 3/8 inch plywood to to 9 5/8 inch x 12 inch for the right side (D).
Attach the right side (D) to the front/back (B), and bottom (A), using 5/8 inch brad nails.
- (E) – 3/8 in. plywood – 10 in. x 11 1/4 in.
Cut a 3/8 inch plywood to 10 inches x 11 1/4 inches for the top (E).
Install nails as shown on drawing above, this will allow the top to open and close.
- 1 – 3/8 in dowel – 5 in.
Cut a 3/8 inch dowel to 5 inches and install to nesting box as shown on drawing above.
