Garden Arbor Bench Plans – Building Details
Begin with four 6×6 post 10′ long.
Post are buried in a 2′ hole with concrete.
You can assemble the arbor / bench then put it in holes with concrete, or you can bury the post in concrete as shown above and then start building.
Notch the top of the 6×6 post as shown on illustration above.
1 square = 1″
Cut two 2×6’s to 7′ 11″ long.
Cut both ends of the 2×6’s as shown on illustration above.
Install as shown using 3″ deck screws.
Cut five 2×2’s to 3′ 11″.
Install using 3″ deck screws.
Cut two 2×4’s to 4′ 11″ long.
Notch the 6×6 post as shown on illustration above and install the 2×4’s using 3″ deck screws.
Picture shows 6×6 post buried 2′ in ground. Measure 1′ 6″ from the ground if you have buried the poles 2′ deep.
Cut five 2×4’s to 2′ long and assemble as shown on illustration above using 3″ deck screws.
Cut seven 2×6’s to 4′ long for the seat and back rest.
Install the 2×6 boards as shown on illustration above with 3″ deck screws.
Use 2×2’s to make the trellis for the sides.
Cut two 2×2’s to 6′ long.
Cut seven 2×2 – to 1′ 9″ long.
Cut two 2×2’s to 9 3/4″ long.
Cut four 2×2’s to 10 1/2″ long.
Assemble the trellis as shown on illustration above using 3″ deck screws.
Install the trellis to the sides using 3″ deck screws.

This thing is massive! I used 4x4x10 instead of 6x6x10 but would probably use 6x6x8 next time. I would also recommend making the mid-post notches before assembling or burying anything. Will post pictures when it’s completed and stained. Thanks for the plan!
